Chapter 1-Down the Rabbit Hole

I couldn't take it anymore. My heart was always hurting. I always told myself to let go of him, but I couldn't. His face was etched in my mind. I just couldn't forget. I could never forget.

My name is Addilyn. I'm a 15-year old girl who wishes she were normal. But, I'm really not. What can I say, I'm a theatre kid! My passion is singing and acting in front of anyone available. My favorite songs are from Les Mis and Disney. I also love to read and draw, read books I'm a fan of and then draw fan art. I have a lot of close friends, it's not like I'm dirt at my school or something. I kinda was, though, up until the show. Beauty and the Beast. Then I got a bit of recognition. Me, and one of my closest friends, Darian. We've been friends since the show started, and he was Lumiere. And a great one at that. Anyways, I also am friends with another guy, Alex. Well, I should hope we're friends. You could say I kinda like him. Darian has been pretty supportive of it, but he still won't tell me his crush. I guess he's still not comfortable enough with me, so I'll just have to deal with it and wait 'till he's ready. Anyways, today was just like any other.

I got out of study hall relatively early, and as always I waited for my best friends, Scout and Sady, to get out of Drama. They're always late, 'cause Mrs. D is late, but I still love her. Today they were extra late, so I just went ahead and left without them. On my way out of the hall to go to lunch, I ran into Darian.

"Hello! Wanna sing?" he smiled brightly and hopped in my path.

"Eh.  On My Own is all I'm in the mood for," I replied sulkily, stepping aside and continuing down the sidewalk.

"Okay, that'll work. It's gonna rain anyways," Darian countered, catching up with me and gesturing to the dark, cloud-filled sky.

"Woah. Well, we should probably go inside, huh?" I pulled my jacket around my shoulders, teeth chattering at the freezing rain, and quickly pressed in the building code. Although I'm sure I pressed it in exactly right, the door just wouldn't open. After a second try, it remained closed.

"Urgh, locked," I grumbled. "I guess we'll just have to stay out here."

Darian shrugged. "I'm not that hungry."

"Me neither."

So we both sat down on a small bench and waited for lunch to end.

"So..?" I tried to start.

"Anywhoodles..." Darian grinned mischievously.

"Oh man, if Landry heard that you'd be dead!" I laughed at his silly catchphrase and turned my eyes to the sky. That's why I didn't notice Alex come up behind me, otherwise I'm sure I would've fainted. But then I remembered the week before. Darian had talked to Alex who specifically said he did not like me, and in fact that he felt sorry for me! It also didn't help me that he had an infatuation with some new girl and their new ship name was made quickly. I promise, I almost threw up the first time I heard "Alsey".

"Helloooo!" Alex flashed a winning grin, drawing out his 'o's as if that made his greeting more attractive. My breath hitched as he walked closer and sat between me and Darian. I noticed that Darian had trouble breathing as well. Peculiar. "Wazzup, guys?"

Oh. There he goes again. Wazzup. It's amazing how something that would otherwise sound insane can be so amazing when Alex says it in his awkward, but cute little way. Now, don't think Alex is just any guy. He's different. His auburn hair is always perfectly combed, his bangs at the perfect length. His eyes are a cerulean color, looking at them is like gazing out at the sea. He also has a great smile, and knows just when to show it. Although he is extremely flirtatious with any and every girl he meets, he still is very chivalrous and kind. And he's a drama kid! Alright, definitely not as much as me, but still! A little theatre is better than none.

"Not much," Darian smiled. I knew how much he wanted to be friends with Alex too.

"What about you, Adi?" He asked, using my commonly known pet name. He had no idea what my full name was until he saw my school iPad case.

"Eh, same as Darian, nothing."

He nodded understandingly and stood again.

"Why aren't y'all going inside? It looks like it's gonna rain pretty hard."

I sighed. "The door's locked. We can't get it open."

He smiled as if to say 'Well maybe I can'. Then he smoothly walked to the door, quickly pressed in the combination, and smiled at us as he pulled the door handle...and the door remained locked.

I giggled sheepishly at his clueless expression.

"Told ya."

He nodded, grinning at his honest mistake, and sat back down on the bench.

"So, uh, what do we do?" he asked after a few moments of silence.

"I dunno. Chat?" I asked.

"What do you think, Darian?" Alex turned to our silent friend, who blushed at Alex's words.

"Eh, sure," he shrugged absentmindedly.

"Well, what do you want to talk about?" he asked me.

"I dunno, the weather!" I meant it as a joke, but he really did look up at the  foreboding sky, threatening to rain.

"Good idea. I haven't seen weather like this since that tornado a couple years ago," Alex quipped.

"I know, right? It's pretty freaky," Darian piped up.

At that moment, it began to rain. Not Bambi-style, pitter patter type rain. No, it poured cats and dogs. The sky seemed to open up, drenching us in water.

"Aw, man!" Alex jumped up and raced to the covering by the door. He gestured to us. "C'mon, guys!"

Darian looked at me, and I replied silently with a grin. We both knew what to do.

"I'M SIIIINGING IN THE RAIN, JUST SIIIINGING IN THE RAIN! WHAT A GLORIOUS FEELING, I'M HAPPY AGAIN!!!" Suddenly, a jagged streak of lightning lit up the sky, and thunder rumbled overhead. In seconds we were huddled next to Alex under the portico. He laughed at us and grinned. We smiled back.

"So..." Darian looked at us awkwardly, and we realized how close we were. We immediately stepped away from each other, and I know I was blushing furiously.

"Where do we go? I mean now that it's really lightning and thundering, it's pretty dangerous," Alex murmured, staring at the rainy sky.

"Oh, come on!" I tried to smile cheerily, walking out onto the water-soaked pavilion."It's just a little..." CRACK! A huge bolt of lightning split the sky and came to a stop, sizzling the patch of grass in front of me. If I had been only a few feet closer, I could've died. Within seconds, I was back under the portico, shaking in fear.

"Oh my goodness..." I breathed slowly. I turned to my friends. "What's going on?"

"I dunno..." Alex breathed. Suddenly, he began to look all around him. "Where'd Darian go?"

I internally screamed. Where was he? I ran back out to the grass and searched wildly for Darian. Behind trees, on the brick wall, in the bushes. But he was nowhere to be found. Then, I heard a deep moaning. In front of a tree lay Darian, his leg pinned under a fallen tree branch.

"Alex! I found him!" I called out to the growing darkness. In seconds Alex was beside me. We both slowly lifted the branch off his limb, revealing a mangled and bloody leg. As for Darian, he was slowly slipping into unconsciousness.

"Oh, man..." Alex murmured. "What do we do?"

"C'mon!" I lifted Darian's lanky arm over my shoulder, and Alex did the same with his other arm. We quickly tried to find shelter.

"Where do we go?!" I asked, the wind and rain whipping around my chestnut locks.

"I don't know!" Alex cried out. His eyes were filled with fear. I began to pull Darian again, unsure of where I was going. Alex helped me, but he caught sight of something and turned around.

"Adi, look out!" he gasped and tried to block me and Darian. I had just enough time to see a tree branch snap and hurtle towards us before everything went black.
This is the first chapter of the previously promised Les Miz Fanfic. I have a terrible habit of starting fanfics and not finishing them, so hopefully this one'll be different. I'm co-writing this one with a friend, but I'm entirely open to suggestions. If you guys like this, then I'll post chapter 2 and so on. Hopefully for this fanfic I'll stay a chapter ahead of what's published so I can update reuglarly, hopefully once every week or other week. Enjoy!:D (Big Grin)

P.S. If anyone can come up with a better/different title, let me know!
